WESS International Conference, Paris
Start making plans to be in Paris next March! For details on the Conference see pages 20 and 21 of the Fall 2002 WESS Newsletter or the official website at http://www.library.jhu.edu/rsd/other/wess2004/wess2004.html. The conference will be bi-lingual, French and English. Venues will most likely be the Bibliotheque Nationale and L’Espace Georges Bernanos (http://www.espace-bernanos.com) on rue du Havre close to Gare St.-Lazare in downtown Paris, possibly some hotels nearby. Various site visits are being explored by the Local Arrangements Committee. Registration and lodging information will be made available as soon as we know the details, probably by this summer.
Paper and panel proposals that were submitted by April 1 are currently being reviewed. For example, one of our major sponsors, the Goethe Institut, under the leadership of its New York director Marilen Daum, is envisioning a panel on how immigration has shaped and influenced collection development in Germany. We hope to have a fairly complete agenda by this summer. The historian Roger Chartier has already agreed to deliver a keynote address on Friday, March 26, 2004.
The Fundraising Team (Jeffry Larson, Susanne Roberts, Jeffrey Garrett, Elisabeth Remak-Honnef and Helene Baumann) has done a marvelous job obtaining pledges of financial sponsorships from our vendors and publishers. Without their active and generous support this conference would not be taking place. Here our gracious sponsors as of March 1, 2003:
Aux Amateurs de Livres Belser Wissenschaftlicher Dienst Blackwells Casalini Libri Erasmus Boekhandel, Paris Gale Group/PS Goethe Institut Iberbooks IDC Publishers Lindsay and Howes ProQuest Puvill International Jean Touzot Libraire
