Online Text Collections in Western European Literature
Google Book Search provides full-text for books that are out of copyright and brief excerpts for many newer books. Copyright laws vary from country to country. In general, users with US Internet addresses can see full-text of European books published before 1910. Users in other countries may not be able to see full-text of European books published after 1868.
All books are searchable, though the German books in Fraktur from Google's earliest efforts often do not produce good results.
Europeana provides one search for texts, videos, sound, and images from many European museums, archives, and libraries. It does not include collections outside of Europe, commercial projects, or Web sites put up by individuals or by other types of institutions such as university departments other than libraries and museums.
